Ford America is doing its bit to dispel the myth that electric cars lack power and torque. The company is showcasing some extreme EV technology in a one-off prototype vehicle called the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400. I gets its name from the fact that it produces 1400 hp.

The Mach-E 1400 features 7 electric motors, three powering the front axle and 4 at the rear. Combined they can take the car to 160mph. With such power the Mach-E 1400 takes some stopping, so Ford turned to brake specialist Brembo for a solution.

The Mustang Mach-E 1400 is very much a one off, but has been built to highlight developing EV technology ahead of the launch of the normal road going electric Mustang model. It is also being used as a test-bed for new materials and components.

The Mach-E GT at 459hp will be the most powerful production version and will be released next year.
