Recovery operators in the UK took to the roads in protest in November, to highlight the pressures they are under, which has caused a number of companies to close over recent months.
Some sixty trucks staged a protest on the M25 by travelling in convoy at 40 mph.
The protesters were particularly angry over two main issues. Firstly the fact the under new London Emission Zone rules, many operators face expensive vehicle upgrades or costly conversions if they wish to continue to operate in the London area. Recovery companies have so far been unsuccessful in negotiating an exemption for their vehicles and say the UK capital faces a serious shortage of trucks in its important Olympic year.
The protest was also called to highlight the Green Flag situation, where the breakdown organisation has drastically reduced its number of contractors leaving many recovery firms short of work.
More publicity, protests and action are planned by the Fair Trade for Recovery group.
