Limerick based Goeco, a vehicle manufacturer with a difference, has proved it can beat the recession with a unique and innovative product. The company is the first in Ireland to make electric bikes and the first to manufacturer any type of bike in the county since the early 1960’s.
Goeco has been a market leader in the supply of electric bicycles in Ireland for many years and is now making its own products, as well as importing from other makers. CEO Marty Mannering is a champion of electric vehicles of all kind in Ireland. He saw the opportunity for an electric version of a normal “High Nelly” cycle, when an old lady asked him if he had a bike like hers in electric. He says, “No one in the industry has a traditional style frame electric bicycle in the true sense of the word.”
The new bike thus combines the traditional design with the latest available technology. It features a 36v Lithium Ion battery, which will give the rider over 40 miles of pedaling assistance at a cost of just 12cents in charging. The bike has attracted great interest, both in Ireland and overseas. So much so that Goeco is already working to satisfy export orders at its base in Cappamore, Co. Limerick.
