Survey finds Mercedes-Benz Citan most fuel-efficient van

A new study by Confused.com has revealed the most fuel-efficient diesel and petrol vans, with the  Mercedes-Benz Citan coming out on top.


The survey found the Citan could do 831 miles on one tank at an average of 63 mpg, followed by the VW Transporter on 708 miles at 46 mpg. Leading petrol van was also the Citan with a 611 mile tank range at 46 mpg, followed by the Ford Transit Connect on 580 miles at 44 mpg.

The vans with the least impressive fuel economy were found to be the diesel VW Crafter at 30 mpg and the petrol Fiat Fiorino at 43 mpg.

In terms of electric alternatives the survey found the Iveco Daily had the most range at 174 miles on a full eight-hour charge with a payload of up to 1,652kg. However, this comes at a premium price. Better value was said to be the LDV EV80 with a 7 Hour charge offering a 120 mile range and the economical Nissan E-NV200 with a 7 hour charge giving around 118 miles. Both of these electric models are said to also offer relatively low charging costs.
