Laser Tools has introduced a simple idea for measuring the thickness of brake pads easily, without the need to remove the wheels. The Laser Brake Pad Thickness Gauge lets technicians check the amount of pad material remaining in a matter of seconds.

The user simply locates this lightweight aluminium gauge (part number 6678) against the surface of the brake disc and then slides back the measuring peg until it stops against the back plate of the brake pad. It is then just a matter of reading off the thickness of the pad material in millimetres or being advised by the green/amber/red traffic-light symbol as to whether replacement is required.
