PPG Industries has agreed to buy the bodyshop distribution business of Unipart Automotive in the UK. In an undisclosed deal, expected to be finalised by the end of January, PPG has acquired 34 refinish distribution branches from Unipart which operate under the Brown Brother name. Some 475 Unipart Automotive refinish employees will transfer with the business.
John McGowan, PPG market director, United Kingdom and Ireland, said the acquisition offers PPG growth opportunities in adjacent markets, although third-party distributor relationships will still be a crucial part of its UK operations.
