There were mixed fortunes for Derek Tohill at the recent second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill in England with mechanical problems eventually forcing him down the finishing order after an impressive start.
Derek was competing in his PartsforCars LD Motorsports 600 BHP powered Citroen DS3 SuperCar in front of a sell-out crowd, on a circuit where he has enjoyed much previous success.
This time round he finished second in his first heat despite a turbo problem restricting power. This was followed by an impressive win in his second heat. Unfortunately a puncture in the first Sunday heat was followed by further turbo problems which meant qualification for the semi-final was not possible.
Derek commented “With such a massively competitive field we could not afford any problems but ran into difficulties in 3 of our 4 qualifying heats. My performance improved relative to our opponents in Portugal, we had stronger pace and I ultimately learnt more about the car and how I must adapt my driving style.”
Derek and the team now plan to do lots of work to resolve any technical issues before the before the next championship round at Hell in Norway on June 14th and 15th. Further rounds take place in Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Turkey, with the championship finale in Argentina in November.
