Bodyhops across Ireland are increasingly discovering the benefits of Mirka Aquastar, an innovative patented flexible film abrasive, for wet sanding that can provide a genuine boost to productivity in the repair preparation process.
Traditionally, paper has been used as a backing material for abrasives developed for wet hand sanding applications. However, the stability and strength of paper in water are always a problem.
In response, Mirka developed Aquastar, an advanced flexible film abrasive that is durable and user-friendly with excellent touch and feel properties that adapts its shape to the object’s surface for a smooth and uniform finish.
The abrasive features an integrated anti-slip backing on the reverse and is ideal for wet sanding of clear coats and primers used in bodyshops, vehicle manufacturing and other OEM applications. Aquastar can also be used with good result in different dry sanding applications. The product is available in grits from P400 to P2000 as “perforoll” sheets, packed in an innovative dispensing box.
Aquastar offers a good scratch pattern on the surface that can be used in any direction with the same efficiency and a powerful cutting rate delivering a consistent sanding performance. Its flexible water tight Polypropylene backing, comprising multiple abrasive zones surrounded by interconnected channels, provides further flexibility and durability avoiding the need to pre-soak before use.
The channel system of Aquastar reduces the amount of water used in the sanding process and improves the flushing of the abrasive to provide an efficient method of conveying away of the swarf created during the sanding process, thus minimising clogging and sucking effects.
Aquastar is available from Mirka stockists.
