JTD fuel filter tool eases replacement

The JTD style fuel filter element used on some Opel, Fiat, Chevrolet and Suzuki models, is fitted inside a plastic housing which is sealed tight by a large plastic ring. With almost 200 vehicle applications, including Chevrolet, Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Saab, Suzuki and Opel, this tool is an investment that should find a home in every workshop.

Accessing the filter requires the housing to be removed from the vehicle and somehow firmly located whilst the plastic ring is loosened. Not an easy task when you don’t have the right tool for the job. Blue Print’s OE developed tool is the perfect solution- Technicians will wonder how they ever managed without it.

Replacing the fuel filter element using this tool not only saves time and money, but crucially, it also dramatically reduces the chance of damaging the expensive housing assembly, which would also render the vehicle undriveable.

Clamping the plastic housing in a vice and attempting to loosen the filter fastening ring with a large pair of metal-jawed grips, is highly likely to result in damage.

To use the tool, secure the bottom half of the tool (A in figure to right) in a vice, remove the filter housing assembly from the car and insert it into the bottom part of the tool. Place the top part of the tool (B in figure at right) onto the top of the filter housing, making sure that the slots in the tool engage the housing fastening ring. The top half of the tool can then be rotated with a 1/2” ratchet to open the housing, and close it after the filter and rubber seal have been replaced. Be sure to tighten the fastening ring to the proper torque (30Nm usually stamped on top of the filter housing). The fuel filter is self priming. Carefully inspect the filter housing after installation to make certain that there are no leaks.

The JTD style fuel filter tool (Blue Print No. ADK85502) is available from stockists nationwide.
