Hybrids prove safer

Hybrid cars may have the edge over normal vehicles on fuel consumption and emissions and a new survey also showing that they have an advantage when it comes to safety.

The Highway Loss Data Institute in the US, has found that hybrid drivers and passengers are 25% less likely to be injured in a crash than people traveling in non-hybrids.

Of course general reaction would be that Hybrid drivers are less prone to crashes, but the study used special controls in the study to allow for this. It appears that vehicle weight is the key factor in reducing risk, with heavy hybrids proving safer in a crash situation.
