The National Ploughing Championships have once again proved to be a huge success with record attendances expected at the 800 acre site in Co Laois over the three day event.

Held for the final year at Ratheniska, the Championships are now Europe’s biggest annual outdoor festival. The event was officially opened by President Michael D Higgins on Tuesday with huge crowds turning out on the first day from right across Ireland and overseas.

Some 1500 exhibitors are in attendance showcasing all types of products and services. Farm machinery, livestock and food products feature prominently, but this year as in previous years there is a strong and expanding presence from the motor trade with car manufacturers, parts and accessories suppliers and various service providers all in attendance.

The National Ploughing Championships provides an excellent opportunity for many businesses in the Irish motor trade to showcase their latest products and services, with numbers approaching 300,000 expected over the three days. Reflecting the more optimistic outlook for the automotive industry in Ireland, this year’s event attracted many new motor trade exhibitors.
