Darren Gass from Armagh with Enda Sherry from Monaghan in a Subaru WRC
were the overall winners if the Safety Direct Galway International Rally.
The 2012 Safety Direct Galway International Rally was a huge success with the largest entry of competitors for years. Darren Gass and Enda Sherry were the eventual winners of an event that threw up many surprises throughout the day.
A huge crowd of spectators both on the city centre spectator stage and the stages in Headford turned out to see Gass clinch the title at the death from reigning Irish and National Rally Champion, Tim McNulty while managing to hold off a late charge from Eugen Donnelly in the Colm Quinn sponsored MINI WRC.
Leading Galway finishers were Tom Flaherty from Galway City and Patrick Curley from Gort who were 10th overall and second in the National event in their MK2 Escort. In doing so the collected the coveted Brian Thornton Memorial Trophy for the second year in a row.
