As a direct result of the training given by the DPF-Doctor at the recent Autoinform Live event, many Irish garages have now signed up as accredited members of the DPF Doctor professional DPF Cleaning network.

These members, together with some visiting garages from the UK, met for an intensive DPF training session presented by Darren Darling of the DPF-Doctor and Steve Scott of Simply Diagnostics, which was hosted by Eugene O'Shea at Autowise in Naas.

The training gave an overview of the various DPF cleaning options with many utilising JLM cleaning products. However, the main thrust of the training was to emphasise that in order to offer the highest level of DPF expertise, technicians need to gain a true in-depth understanding of DPF systems and diagnostics. In many cases simply cleaning a DPF will not address any underlying issues, which may be related to EGR valves, faulty sensors, additive levels or other problems.

Darren and Steve presented a wealth of make, model and engine specific DPF information, demonstrating many common issues and their solutions. They also provided some enlightening practical tips on how talk to customers in relation to DPF issues, highlighting how it is importance to major on the skills and expertise of the garage rather than any equipment items. They also touched on the fact that DPF issues are actually more commonplace on Euro 6 engines than Euro 5 and how the rise of petrol particulate filters will keep this sector buoyant.

Darren also explained how DPF Doctor garages share information both at regular training sessions and in a private online forum, allowing the network to pool unrivalled levels of expertise. This allows an accredited garage to become a true recognised DPF expert in their exclusive area, providing advanced DPF cleaning and diagnostics not only to their own customers but also other garages.

Darren says that there are a limited number of openings for additional garages to join the PDF Doctor network in Ireland. For more information visit, www.dpf-doctor.com
