Figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that  Volkswagen was  top-selling car marque for the month of February. Volkswagen sold 1,427 units in February ahead of Toyota (1,415) and Ford (1,128).

Volkswagen had 12.42 per cent of the new car passenger market in February with the Golf remaining their top-selling model ahead of the Passat and Polo.

Commenting on the results, Volkswagen's Sales and Marketing Manager John Donegan said, “We are delighted with the sales results for February and to be the top-selling brand and with several key new models yet to be released we would hope to carry this momentum further into 2012. We launch the Volkswagen up! this month and that, we believe will be a game-changer in the small car segment."
