Car buyers told to “BOGOF”

The € buy one, get one free €  phenomenon might be commonplace when it comes to packets of biscuits, but surely would never work when it comes to selling cars? Well think again, because a hard-pressed Dodge dealer in the UK was recently selling two Dodge Avenger SXT 2.4i models for the price of one, just £20,000.

The offer was featured on Broadspeed.com, a dealer intermediary website and created a flood of interest causing the site to temporarily crash. Site MD Simon Empson said, 22,000 customers expressed an interest in the deal and hoped to offer similar promotions on other makes in the future. He also added that previous attempts to generate interest in cars by dropping the price to nearly half had generated nothing like the same level of interest. This seems to illustrate well that the ploy of offering something for nothing often wins out over a straight discount.
