Actronics offers cost effective Ford ECU replacement solution

ACtronics has developed a special remanufacturing solution for a popular Ford ECU which quite frequently requires replacement. FoMoCo ESU411 is the engine control unit used in 1.8L and 2.0L Duratec engines, which feature on the Focus II DA3 and the C-Max as well as certain Volvo models.

This ECU can become defective, mainly due to a failing ignition control or a malfunctioning throttle body control system. Here inputs from the throttle pedal no longer reach the throttle body which makes the throttle totally unresponsive.

ACtronics research engineers have found that the main processor on the ECU causes most problems and it is that specific component that needs to be replaced. However, it is not easy to simply replace it for a new one. First off, a special process had to be developed for opening and then resealing the ECU. Special equipment is also required to remove the processor from the printed circuit board as it is held on by 388 tiny contacts. This is achieved by using very precisely targeted heat. The PCB is then manually prepared for the new processor to be attached. This is done by a special machine using digital imaging technology. The unit is then fully tested to ensure effective operation before reassembly.

This advanced remanufacturing process can be completed quickly meaning the ECU can be returned to the garage and the car can be back on the road quickly. The cost of remanufacturing also offers very considerable savings on a new replacement.

You can find out more about the remanufacturing process and see a video for the FoMoCo ESU411in the Insight section on the ACtronics website at www.actronics.eu.
