Nissens Automotive has issued some useful advice on how to avoid failures on newly installed replacement air conditioning compressors.

The company says, the AC compressor is the heart of the AC system and it is also one of its most expensive parts. The installation process can significantly impact both the lifespan and performance of the compressor, which means that if it is not installed correctly, it can fail prematurely. To avoid this problem, it's crucial to follow the correct procedure and to be aware of the most common compressor failures.

Nissens say that common installation issues include;

Lack of or improper flushing: This is a crucial aspect of installation and time needs to be taken to ensure it is correctly carried out. Failure to flush properly can cause seizure, overheating, or inner blockage of the newly installed compressor. For a guide to flushing please click here.

Improper lubricant change; The technician needs to ensure there is the correct oil volume in the system. If this is not the case it can result in poor system performance, compressor overheating and seizure. Carrying out correct AC system temperature/pressure diagnostics can avoid this.

Incorrect lubricant; Improper oil in the system, or oil mixing, can result in impaired compressor lubrication, overheating and seizure. Again AC system temperature/pressure diagnostics can avoid this.

Additives impairing lubrication: Improper use of AC system additives can result in impaired compressor lubrication, overheating and seizure.

Poor condition of condenser; Poor performance, or inner blockages of the condenser can result in poor AC system performance, too high or too low pressure readings and AC compressor overheating or seizure. This can be avoided through visual inspection of the condenser and AC system temperature/pressure diagnostics.

Nissens has an extensive library of technical material that gives insight into the essential procedures, maintenance, troubleshooting and component installation for the AC system, as well as the thermal management systems of electric & hybrid vehicles. The company’s tech support site is easily accessible and consists of online assets and highly effective live training.
