Navara Clutch Release Bearing advice from Blueprint

Asian parts specialist Blue Print has issued some useful technical guidance on fitting new clutch components to certain Nissan models. The advice concerns the popular Nissan Navara D22, NP300, D22S and is in reference to part no. references: ADN13309, ADN130141, ADN130253.

Blue Print says that before fitting any new clutch components, technicians should inspect the clutch fork for corrosion, wear or damage and inspect the guide tube for pitting, scoring, wear and for any remains of the old bearing. They should then replace any non-serviceable parts as necessary and check that the new bearing moves freely on the guide tube.

When replacing the clutch release bearing, care must be taken to ensure that it’s fitted correctly. It is possible to inadvertently fit the bearing 180 degrees out and in doing so severely restrict the pivoting action of the bearing on the clutch fork. If fitted incorrectly, bearing failure is inevitable and damage will occur to the guide tube, which is part of the gearbox front cover.

It’s important to note the position of the release bearing retainers on the clutch fork. In the correct position the bearing can pivot on the fork as it travels along the guide tube. If installed incorrectly the bearing cannot pivot on the fork and as a result the release bearing will drag against the guide tube causing premature wear, damage to the guide tube and will eventually lead to clutch failure.

Application of a lithium-based grease to the guide tube, clutch fork pivot point and release bearing retainers is important for its long term operation, but over lubrication must be avoided to prevent contamination of the friction surfaces.

Blue Print also points out that incorrectly fitted clutch components will invalidate the warranty.
