Electric vehicles are beginning to become a more common sight. Over the next few years, we are undoubtedly going to see more EVs introduced, and so this is another advancement that we in the workshops are going to need to get acquainted with.

I am hoping that in time, the battery capacity will become sufficient to meet the same range which is well within the capability of any Internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, without a further visit to a fuel station, but this will also depend on the costs involved.

The Nissan Leaf and BMW i3 & i8 are well known electric vehicles. There are, of course, a few others which have been steadily growing in numbers on our roads and are going relatively unnoticed. The owner of the 2017 e-Golf IIV asked me to get the NCT carried out and give it the necessary service.

With no oils to change, and with the regenerative braking system taking the strain from the brake lining, there is very little to do on a service. The brake fluid was due to be changed, along with the cabin filter, but otherwise the work required to keep the EV on the road is minimal. This one sailed through the NCT, and was soon turned around and back out on the road.
