Apple is reported to be planning a new 'crash detection' feature for iPhones and Apple Watches that will alert emergency services automatically after a vehicle crash.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple is planning to introduce this new safety feature next year as part of its health-sensor rollout.

The feature is thought to be similar to Apple's fall-detection technology, which is available on the Apple Watch Series 7's and has the ability to detect if its wearer falls while riding a bike.

The crash detection system will use motion sensors to measure data such as sudden increases in gravity and acceleration to detect any incidents.
