Figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) for September show that car sales in Ireland continue to fall with just three month to go.


For the month of September 2,487 new cars were sold, 10% less than September 2011 (2,767) with the total for quarter 3 down 1%. The year-to-date figures now show 76,630 new cars were sold, down 12% on this time last year (87,163).

Volkswagen top the sales charts for September ahead of Ford with Toyota in third spot. The best selling cars for the month were the BMW 3-Series, Ford Focus and Skoda Octavia.

Light Commercial Vehicle(LCV) sales in September were down 4% on 2011 with Heavy Good Vehicle (HGV) sales remaining unchanged fro September 2011.
