Another major recall has been issued by a number of car manufacturers relating to problem with air bags.

Over 6.6 million cars worldwide fitted with air bags from Japanese manufacturer, Takata are being recalled because of faulty air bags.

In Ireland Toyota are recalling  approximately 24,000 Corolla, Yaris and Avensis Verso models built between April 2004 and November 2007 for potential issues with passenger airbags and 3,000 Rav4 and Hi-Lux models built between July 2003 and November 2005.

Nissan is recalling 15,500 cars in Ireland also fitted with Takata air bags. The models affected are Patrols, Tinos, Almeras, X-Trails and Terrano models built between 2004 and 2006.

Back in 2013, both car makers recalled other models for similar problems with the Takata air bags. This time further cars are added where fears that the passenger air bag inflators erupt with excessive force causing injuries to passengers when the air bag inflates.

About 25 million vehicles with Takata airbags have been recalled worldwide by 10 different carmakers since 2008. Honda has said it would follow suit, without giving further details.

In all cases customers will be contacted by the car companies and work to repair the problem will be completed free of charge
