Soltec, which has been a key provider of hazardous waste management solutions in Ireland since its establishment in 1994, has announced the opening of a brand new recycling facility, which will become the company’s main base for operations in Mullingar.

The success of Soltec’s products and waste management services saw the company begin the search for a new base in 2016. Keen to reinvest in the local area, the company started the process of identifying and securing a green field site with the intention of expanding its operations. Following the acquisition of a site in Mullingar, Soltec successfully obtained planning permission from Westmeath County Council for its development. At the same time it has also acquired an Industrial Emissions Licence from the EPA alongside securing the various other approvals and licencing.

The transition from the old facility to the new site is being managed in 3 phases.  Phase 1 of the project, the construction of the facility and commencing operations on site, has now been completed. The development of the 5-acre site included the construction of a 10,000 square foot warehouse, which is now used to store and distribute various types of packaged hazardous waste. The facility has been designed and built to the highest international standards for safety, environmental protection and efficiency.

This phase has allowed Soltec to develop its service offering to clients as it now has the ability to accept a variety of hazardous waste in large quantities, including waste oils, solvents, corrosives and aerosols. These materials are checked, accepted into the warehouse for storage and then shipped to Soltec’s European waste treatment partners.

Phase 2 of the development is due to start shortly will involve the construction of a solvent storage facility. The facility will be used to store and blend fuel suitable for the cement industry which is a sustainable alternative to coal.
