A survey by Helphire has unearthed some interesting findings about driver behaviour after they have had an accident. The study of 15000 drivers found that even when a car suffers only minor damage 47% of drivers use it as an excuse to replace their car.

The survey also found that where a car was completely written off, 15% of drivers decided not to replace it at all, instead switching to using public transport or sharing another family car. In general replacement cars bought tended to be smaller and more economical than the damaged vehicle, as motorist use the crash as an opportunity to bring down future motoring costs.
