Continental has added five new torsional vibration dampers to it range to help ensure a more pleasant driving experience.

Drivers are generally not familiar with the role a torsional vibration damper can play in a vehicle, however, they will soon notice if this component becomes faulty. This is because TVDs have an integrated rubber track which eliminates the crankshaft’s vibrations and rotational irregularities. This stops them from spreading to other ancillary units via the engine’s belts and belt pulleys. The result is much smoother running overall, making each journey a far more enjoyable one.

Continental is continuously expanding its TVD range. Five new TVD parts have just been added covering a total of around 12 million vehicles in Europe. One of the new additions, the VD1236, is designed for popular commercial vehicles such as the Iveco Daily.

Continental also offers torsional vibration dampers with integral overrunning functions a new innovation in the automotive aftermarket. They decouple the belt drive from the crankshaft and isolate high torsional vibrations, paving the way for low belt tension with reduced belt friction. This eases the strain on all components in the belt drive while also looking after the environment thanks to lower carbon emissions. There are currently five different components of this type in the range: VD1217 EXTRA, VD1219 EXTRA, VD1220 EXTRA, VD1221 EXTRA and VD1222 EXTRA. These are mainly for Mercedes Benz applications.

Full details can be found on the Continental PIC.
