Bodyshops missing out on ADAS

A new study in Canada has highlighted how accident repairers may be putting drivers at risk and missing out on business at the same time by not carrying out all the necessary ADAS calibration work after a repair.

adasThink, is a new Canadian software platform for collision repair shops that scans estimates to identify advanced driver-assistance system calibrations requirements. The study found that bodyshops, including many main dealer locations for prestige brands, missed an amazing 88% of calibration work on their estimates.

The study took a snap shot of 100 estimates where a known, 122 ADAS calibrations were required and found that of these only 15 estimates included any ADAS procedures. The study also found that many shops missed required sensor replacements and some had claimed for post and pre-accident scans without doing the necessary diagnostic work.

The study highlights the need for accident repair centres in all countries to become more ADAS aware and to ensure they are carrying out the required calibration work in line with manufacturer requirements. ADAS technology is set to become more widespread and more complex as new vehicles are released and bodyshops need to be more mindful of calibration work required as the technology develops.
