Making sure that the modern technician is well-equipped to cope with the changing landscape, ZF Aftermarket is delivering technical support, information and training through its ZF [pro]Tech workshop concept and has recently introduced several new courses.

A new training programme, ‘Introduction to Electrical Engineering’ has already been added and making its debut soon is S&S Level 2. Another new addition to the ZF [pro]Tech family is ‘start’. This is a technical support and information hub, available to garages via its distribution network for an affordable, one-off fee.

The first two-day Introduction to Electrical Engineering course took place in July. With places filled within weeks of the date being announced the course was very well received. ZF say the next course, scheduled for December is filling up fast. Wayne McCluskey Technical training manager, ZF Aftermarket commented, “This course is designed as a refresher for qualified technicians and apprentices, in preparation for moving onto courses in High Voltage Systems. Feedback showed us that it’s often a long time since technicians learned the basics such as the Ohms and Kirchoff’s Laws, and before tacking the higher levels of High Voltage Systems they needed to refresh their knowledge.”

In addition to the Laws of electricity the course covers: conversion factors, rules surrounding Voltage, Current and resistance, circuit diagram reading, testing and building together with the use of Multimeters and scientific calculators.

A two day Steering & Suspension Level 2 course is also planned. It will cover the diagnosis of complex faults such as noise and handling issues, and the importance of understanding steering geometry on modern vehicles with relation to advanced driving technologies such as ADAS. Dates for this will be announced soon.

ZF also says that its [pro]Tech Start Programme membership is available via distributors for a one-off affordable fee. Via an on-line portal and technical helpline, members can access ZF’s technical knowledge and all-makes, all systems OEM service campaign information (traditionally available only through main dealers at considerable cost). Members are also offered discounted ZF training courses, including those on High Voltage Electrical systems.

Matt Shakespeare, UK Technical sales manager, ZF Aftermarket explains, “Once garages are logged on to the ZF portal, using their own unique passwords and login details, they have access to the knowledge and experience to arm their businesses with the skills and proficiencies required for the vehicles of today and tomorrow.”
