FAI highlights timing chain expertise
Share:

Over recent years parts supplier FAI has developed a reputation as a leading expert in the growing field of timing chain kits. The company offers what it says is the most comprehensive aftermarket programme with 430 part numbers, covering a greater percentage of the European and Asian car parc than its competitors. Throughout the range the emphasis is on supplying the fitter with a complete solution, meaning all the parts needed to complete a TCK installation are included right down to the last stretch bolt. FAI also works very hard to ensure that its range offer up to the minute and relevant coverage to meet garage needs.

The company backs up its comprehensive, high quality range with a its expert knowledge of this sector by producing various tools and information to assist technicians in what is often a relatively new field of expertise for them. For example, it offers a very useful Fault Finding Chart which demonstrates the most common faults that can arise when a TCK or a component of the TCK is failing in a simple question and answer format.

FAI technical experts also produce regular technical bulletins on timing chain fitment issues, many of which are featured in the FAI Focus monthly news update.  For example, they offer some useful advice on installation of the timing chain on the very popular Ford / PSA 1.6 (DV6) engine. These engines are fitted with one of two types of timing chains depending on the camshaft gears fitted. Camshaft gears are marked with either an arrow or a square symbol and this dictates the positioning of the timing chain. FAI has developed TCK7 to incorporate both bright and black links to remove the guess work and it provides a useful visual guide to show the two options and the correct alignment for installation.

FAI also offers a solution for the installation of the timing chain on Fiat / Iveco F1C Euro IV & Euro V/VI engine. The Fiat Iveco developed F1C (F30DT) is a 3.0 litre, 4-Cylinder, Common Rail Diesel engine used in a variety of light commercial vehicles such as Citroen Relay /Jumper, Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato and Iveco Daily. The engine has two timing chain systems fitted. The Upper (TCK194NG/TCK194LNG), driven by the injection pump and camshafts and the lower (TCK195NG/TCK195LNG) driven by the crankshaft. The engine was originally available with EURO IV emission compliance but has since been modified to comply with EURO V & VI standards. As a result of the modifications to achieve EURO V compliance, some of the timing chains and components have been modified. To help identify the required components, there are clear engine number breaks highlighting the change from EURO IV to EURO V. FAI also provides visual identifiers to show the differences.

All FAI TCKs also come with useful oil warning label to highlight the importance of using the correct oil spec. FAI also offers a comprehensive range of oil control valves and recommends checking the  valve when undertaking a TCK replacement as these are often overlooked and a potential cause of the initial failure.
