Rotating electrics manufacturer Remy Automotive has announced the introduction of a new core acceptance criteria poster for its distributors as an important guide to the suitability of old core for remanufacture.

The A2 full colour size poster provides clear images of what is and what is not acceptable for core return, as well as useful additional information to help distributors should they need to return old core back to their garage customer.

"As one of the world’s leading remanufacturers of starters and alternators, it is essential that the returned core we receive is entirely suitable for quality remanufacture” says Michael Flensborg, Sales & Marketing Director of Remy Automotive UK Ltd. He adds "The major reason that this poster is required is the fact that we have observed that the most common reason for core rejection is that the brackets of the alternator or starter motor are broken. As alternators and starters are such delicate electrical components, great care should be taken at all stages of the supply chain to help protect the parts. This is especially important once the part is removed from the vehicle and returned for remanufacture. In fact we always request that cores are returned to us in the Remy packaging to help protect them.”

The poster provides 10 different examples of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable for both starter motors and alternators. It stresses that the old core inspection is a visual/mechanical process and does not require the core inspector to dismantle the part in any way. It also emphasises that the core must be completely removed from the box during inspection and the whole unit examined. Units which are mechanically damaged or are in such condition that they cannot be remanufactured should not be accepted.

Michael added that he is confident that this new poster will be of great assistance to the Aftermarket.
