Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes won the 2022 Joule Donegal International Rally in dramatic fashion, in front of huge crowds of rally fans.

In a highly competitive event where Josh started in third position on the final day, events turned in his favour, when the leader Callum Devine crashed out leaving Welshman Matt Edwards in the lead. He too found the scenery with three stages to go, leaving Moffett in the lead for the first time over the weekend.

He started the final two stages with a slender 1 second advantage over Alistair Fisher, but he had a puncture with a couple of tests to go and Josh claimed the Donegal International for the first time in his career, with his brother Sam finishing second, 46 seconds behind.

Josh said: “It’s been unbelievable, it was such a tough weekend and we tried so hard.

“We got off to a bad start but we pulled it together and pushed so hard.

“We had a bit of a breather going into that last stage, but it didn’t make it much easier with the pressure and the nerves to get through it.”

Welshman Meirion Evans finished third place while Declan Boyle was 4th, just ahead of Fisher in 5th.

Kevin Gallagher was the winner of the modified class 14 race, a minute ahead of James Stafford and Declan Gallagher.
