Tech Plus has introduced new tyre wear diagnostic equipment, that provides a great profit opportunity for workshops and will help improve safety for drivers.

With fuel costs rising, effective tyre maintenance and management is becoming increasingly important. Tyre wear diagnostic equipment has largely been left behind in the tide of new automotive technology, with most checks still made manually. This means they are subjective and often inaccurate, providing a poor basis for important financial and safety decisions.

Now there is a more accurate solution from RL Automotive, in the form of a range of portable tyre wear diagnostic equipment, using laser and Bluetooth technology. The equipment has its origins in the fast paced world of F1 racing, where RL Automotive has produced a laser-scanning device, to help the teams develop their tyre changing strategy. Over recent seasons, it has proved to be so accurate that it can predict tyre failure down to a single lap.

This TAC-Scan technology is now used by a wide range of motor trade customers throughout Europe and is available in Ireland from leading equipment distributor Techplus.

For fleet managers, the equipment allows them to collect and upload tread and pressure data easily, quickly and efficiently. The software suite allows them to produce individual vehicle reports as well as fleet audit reports. This gives them a major advantage when trying to reduce fuel consumption and tyre expenditure.

For inspectors and auditors, the equipment can dramatically reduce inspection time, produce very accurate readings and provide comprehensive action reports at the touch of a button, while for commercial workshops it is an excellent way of cutting the paperwork involved in job sheets and reports.

For tyre shops and alignment specialists, TAC-Scan can be a powerful marketing tool, providing a “free” tyre check in around two minutes, complete with a tyre wear printout for the customers highlighting the areas of concern.

TAC-Scan is presently being rolled out to a major motoring organisation that is providing an independent 30-point pre-sale check to a large car/van auction chain. TAC-Scan is central to this check, providing accurate and consistent tread readings. The report is posted on the cars, allowing the auctioneers to correctly value the cars and giving the customers confidence in what they are paying for.  The service is sold to fleet operators who have seen a 10% increase in ‘First Time’ buys, saving them a considerable amount of money.
