NGK employee Alex Stancombe is set to climb to new heights to raise cash for charity.

The 52-year-old is taking part in the Stephanie Simpson 2022 Lake District Challenge which will see him tackle  England’s highest peak Scafell Pike and also nearby Helvellyn and Skiddaw during the fund-raising event on June 12-16.

It has been organised by Leigh on Sea Striders (LOSS) hiking and running group and is named in tribute to Stephanie Simpson who tragically died two years ago in an accident while hiking in New Zealand.

Alex, who is OEM Assistant Manager for NGK Spark Plugs Ltd, said, “I have been affiliated to Leigh on Sea Striders for around three years as I have a close friend who belongs to the group. The members raise money for national and regional charities every two years. I undertook a similar event in 2020 when I walked around the Mont Blanc Massif and the group raised a total of £60,000 for Marie Curie.”

He added, “This year 42 people are taking part to raise money for two charities; the national Cardiac Risk in the Young and Regional Southend Hospital Trust (Oncology/Stroke Dept), and £25,000 has already been pledged. I understand times are tough but if anyone could spare a pound or two it would be very much appreciated and help to spur me on. Of course, the Southend Hospital Trust is a regional charity so if you would like to sponsor me, please could you donate to ‘Cardiac Risk in the Young.’  My name will appear in the list when you click on the link;  CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lakedistrictchallenge2021cry.”

Alex will cover nearly 63 miles and tackle an ascent of 18,776 feet during the event.
