Eure!Car Training gives technicians the edge Charlie McEnery has seen an immediate positive impact on his workshop, from training his technicians have received through Eure!Car Certified Master Classes

While hundreds of garages all over Ireland have embraced the concept of new technology automotive training and are now reaping the benefits, there are hundreds more who have yet to engage with any training programme. Finding the time is often one of the main excuses, but talk to garages that utilise training programmes such as the Eure!Car Certified Master Class and they will tell you that getting involved in training can actually be a huge time saver.

One progressive garage that is really seeing the benefits of Eure!Car Training is Charlie McEnery Motor Services based in Ennis. As a very busy town centre garage Charlie was conscious of losing staff hours through training and was initially reluctant to get involved. However, as soon as the first technician returned from a Eure!Car course he could quickly see the benefits. He says, "We have found every course very beneficial and they have had an immediate positive impact on the workshop. The technicians not only get a better understanding of the vehicle systems, but also pick-up practical tips that they can put to use straight away. It means they have better knowledge and understanding which actually saves time on pretty much every job.”

Charlie has sent his staff on several Eure!Car programmes both in Dublin and Limerick. He says the practical fault finding format, using a car adapted to simulate common faults, is excellent and is also impressed with the insight the courses have provided into developing technology that his garage is encountering on an increasing basis, such as hybrid and electrical vehicles. He comments, "Technicians come away with new skills and a broader knowledge of many common vehicle systems. The great thing is that they then share this knowledge with other members of the team so that everyone is up-skilling.”

Charlie also points out that the training also highlights new business opportunities and he has put this aspect to practical use by investing in the latest air-con service equipment allowing him to get new business from not only motorists, but also other garages and even dealerships.

As an added bonus the training also means that the workshop has free access to the Eure!Car Technical Helpline, something which has been of huge benefit. Charlie comments, "No matter how good an independent garage is they can often struggle to access the right technical information. We use the technical helpline two or three times a week and find it very good. The staff are very knowledgeable and can provide sound advice and immediate access to resources such as wiring diagrams.” He adds, "They also have access to not only all manufacturer technical information but a huge Europe-wide database of common vehicle problems. It means when we have a problem, they can generally provide a fast and efficient short cut to the solution and this is a major time saving boost for the workshop.”
