Laser Tools has introduced CV Boot Clamp Pliers that can help ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s torque figures when tightening the securing clamp on CV and drive shaft boots.

For drive shaft and constant velocity joint rubber boots, traditionally the securing clamps have simply been compressed with clamp pliers. But on modern vehicles the high-strength stainless steel clamps need much more force to compress them and secure the boot. For this reason, manufacturers, including VAG, Opel, Ford and others, now specify a torque figure that the boot clamps have to be tightened to. If the clamps are not tightened to the specified torque figure, the boots could leak. The CV Boot Clamp Pliers from Laser Tools (part number 7316) is a robust, strongly manufactured tool that features a 3/8" drive and is specifically designed to be used with a torque wrench.

The clamp pliers are fitted with two-way jaws, set at 90° to each other, which greatly assists in gaining access to the clamp in the busy suspension/driveshaft areas. The smooth action of the pliers makes it easy to ensure compliance with the torque settings specified by the manufacturer. This figure is typically between 23 and 30 Nm, depending on the vehicle.

The 7316 CV Boot Clamp Pliers is now available from Laser stockists.
