FAI offers total Fiat Multijet timing chain solution

The Fiat 1.3 Multijet engine is an important aftermarket application used in many different cars and light commercial vehicles including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler , Citroen, Ford, Opel, Peugeot and Suzuki.


Introduced in 2003, the engine has been refined to meet ever tighter emission regulations. To satisfy Euro VI, the Multijet is now using Stop/Start technology and to withstand the extra demands this system places on the timing drive train the timing chain has been redesigned. The rollers are now pierced improving oil flow between the rollers and link pins. In addition, the link pin material has been changed increasing its hardness and therefore resistance to wear.

FAI offer kits for all EURO specifications and to ensure that the installer can complete the installation all FAI kits not only include the essential components, but also ancillaries such as oil spray pipe, oil feed bolts and all gaskets and seals to finish the installation. FAI has partnered up with an OE tier 1 chain manufacturer, to develop and produce this latest Stop/Start technology chain for the Multijet specifically for FAI. The factory is also producing many of FAI’s high volume timing chains, covering popular applications such as Ford Transit. Using this new design timing chain, FAI has come up with an innovation of offering a new timing chain kit. Based on part number TCK6, which covers all engines from EURO III-V.

TCK6L comes with all the same parts as TCK6, but the chain has been replaced to use the very latest EURO VI stop/start chain. This retro fit kit, will replace the old original design chains, but give the installer and vehicle owner the confidence and knowledge that their new chain is using the very latest design and materials, to give long and reliable service.

The TCK6ST is a modified version of the standard TCK6 utilising a High Torque chain. The High Torque Chain has improved lubrication function. It is easily identifiable by the small holes in the rollers. The TCK6ST is for Alfa Romeo/Fiat/Lancia/ PSA which comply with Euro VI regulations.  Meanwhile the TCK6-15 uses a unique camshaft gear fitted with a trigger plate that actuates the engine position sensor. This kit is only for Opel 1.3CDTi 2015 > onwards.

FAI also point out that as with all engines using timing chains, the use of correct grade oil is essential along with engine lubrication system hygiene.FAI recommends when installing a new chain a technician should always identify the cause of the original failure and rectify it. All oil galleries, oil pump and pick up pipes, sump pans and timing covers should also be thoroughly cleaned before refitting. Oil filters must be replaced and oil coolers (if fitted) also cleaned.
