In the run up to Christmas the Consumers' Association of Ireland have called for car parking prices to be reduced, to encourage people to shop locally.


New figures show that last year Irish motorists spent €360m on car parking fees, with almost a third of this figure going to local authorities for on-street parking. The Association described some on-street parking charges as “crazy” and said that they were driving people away from struggling local shops.
